evo vs. road trips
Long trips all depend on the driving conditions. Last vegas trip wich is 310 miles was awesome since i got there in 3:45. Now... the sunday drive home was living hell. Stop and go traffic from Barstow all the way through the Cajon pass. It took me 7:40 to get home.
I was tired and sore from shifting, stiff suspension, and rev matching all my downshifts.
My only road trips in this car from now on are going to ne to Willow Springs. Laguna Seca, Spring Mountain, etc.
Evos are defintely the most comfortable cars for long trips.

yeah evo's need cruise control. I take 300-400 mile trips every so often and on these trips i sometimes get hypnotized by the road and my speed always slow down.. I can't keep my speed constant.. Not haveing cruise control sucks..

I just became a member of the elusive 'evo expidition' club - drove to Loudon Tennessee from New Brunswick, NJ... through Washington and Maryland on the way there - made it in 11 hrs with two stops...
Then returned through Virginia and Pennsylvania... made it in 11 hrs with two stops... 5 miles of bumper to bumper traffic, and a horrific crash between a semi and a little hatchback.
It was amazing!!! Not even the long stretches of monotonous highway were a problem.
For daily driving I sit closer to the wheel with the seat reclined a little. For the long drive I was further away so I could straighten my leg, and kept the seat a little more upright.
The elbow thing, and the slightly sore foot are truly minor issues. I travelled with my wife - and her grandmother on the way back, with a fully loaded trunk - a CPU in the back...
I was still getting 300 miles when the empty light came on!!! Thats almost 29/30 mpg!!!
This car doesn't stop to amaze me. It's really awesome. Was fun to find a couple of 'spirited' drivers on the way who liked to do a little bit of weaving when it was safe
the extra gear is really useful for keeping those revs down, but I think the Evo is fully capable even at high revs.
Make sure you get an oil change before you go - and of course one when you return.
Enjoy!!!

Anyone use painters tape like for track events? Instead of purchasing a bra, could you plop down a whopping $2 for some blue painters tape? I've seen people tape up their cars for track events and autocrosses, but would it be logical to use this for long drives as well?
I took several 2 to 3 hour trips in West Texas where the roads are long and no people except an occasional pickup or suv. I can't say I had a problem with the seats. I did get a hot spot near my lower back since its hot here. The longer I drove the better I liked it. I'm going to take a road trip over Memorial Day to Palo Duro Canyon. If you know where that is ;there are some great curves, switchbacks and long stretches to unleash the EVO.
