New Evo Owner/Member checking in
Hi all my name is Uuri and I am currently in Santa Fe, NM. I have been lurking around here for awhile and have found it really informative and am impressed with the attitudes and conduct of everyone on this forum. I bought an 03 Evo on Tuesday and couldn't be happier. In the past I have built an SR20DET S14 240sx and various other friends' cars and am excited to work on my new project car and daily driver Evo.
The car already came with an HKS exhaust, TXS DP, cat delete, K&N Typhoon intake (considering stock or other intakes to replace this as I believe it is hindering optimal performance), turbo timer, and tein springs. The seller also gave me a Greddy BOV which is uninstalled so I'll probably throw that on just because, recirculated of course. I'm not sure how crazy I'll get with building this car, but for now I plan on building it with bolt-ons to get the most out of the stock turbo and tune it for street driving, road racing, auto-x, and runs on twisty mountain roads
I just ordered a boost gauge and am looking into options for engine management. Next on my shopping list is a fuel pump and MBC. If any of you have suggestions for other mods I should do at this point, please let me know.
BTW I am looking for a stock airbox/intake pipe. I want to compare it to the K&N as I am a bit skeptical of the Typhoon's effects. If you know where I can get one for a reasonable price please PM me. Thanks!

I agree with you about the open intake. You'll be happier with the stock setup. A tune will also help you out significantly as the stock ECU tune doesnt take as well to mods.
I'm not sure about how much boost the Greddy Bov will hold, but the stock unit is one of the things you'd want to replace when you add boost.
Btw.. you look like you have been doing your research.. You'll probably bring a tear to Warrtalon's eye.

Doh! MAJOR D'oh! I just went to try the Greddy BOV and halfway though installation I realized ******** who sold the car to me had the stock recirc. valve on backwards! This explains the irrational compressor surge and bogging on what looked like a recirculated stock valve. Hopefully I wont texperince any turbo failure from thousands of miles of 19psi compressor surge. I can't beieve it took me this long to realize. I have been so busy though that I've hardly even had any time to touch the car until today. Man I hope this doesn't give me turbo problems.
Some kids out there... they get a nice car, and immediately thnk it needs a short ram intake an BOV, then get one of the worst intakes out there, and put the BOV on backwards!
