I am just wondering if the P brake on the car uses the Brembo calipers, or is there a separate drum assembly inside the rotor?

The reason I ask is because whenever I wash the car, or it's rained or snowed, the P brake sticks the next time I drive it. Eventually it pops loose, but it's kind of annoying.

 

it is a little drum within the rear rotor hub. not related to the brembos at all.

 

I wonder why it wants to stick when wet then. Anyone else have this?

 

My '03 does it especially after you wash and dry the car, then park it in the garage for the night.

The next morning it always clunks a little when it "unsticks".

 

the iron rotors will rust overnight because they are wet from the wash.

the p-brake contacts the rotor from the back side, and when you apply it when damp, the flash rust will cause it to stick a bit.

best way to keep it from happening would be to take the car for a quick spin, heat the brakes up a bit to dry things out, then park it.

well i have a feeling it is tied in with the brembos, when my pads started to wear out it kept on saying that my e-brake was on all the time when it wasnt at all. i changed the pads and the e-brake light shut off....

 

the light is tied in with the switch in the master cylinder. when the pads wear past a certain point, the calipers will contain more of the brake fluid, which will switch on the brake light when the fluid level drops.

you install new pads, the level goes back up, and your light goes off.

that really has nothing to do with the p-brake sticking. different system.
