Removing The Hood Louvers?

That louvered plate under the hood grill looks like it could be removed if your engine looked good. Does anyone know if there is any negative effect? Has anyone done it?

Well water would have a straight shot into your engine. The louvers are there to help prevent the water from getting into your engine compartment, but still allow heat to dissapate.

I thought about that. Water goes in now when it rains or you wash your car but if you plunged into the river crossing in a rally the plate would divert the wave coming over the hood. But does it do anything if we're not fording the river?

Yes it does. I said previously, it helps "prevent" the water from coming in. I've seen people that have removed their louvers and their engine compartments looked like crap. If you really think about it, If you have a big opening in your hood wouldn't you agree that more water would get in?
