question for evo drivers
Mitsitech, the Evo is a short-range vehicle that is tolerated by passengers for longer drives (140+miles). Mileage is great for a car of this level of performance. On the longer drives the absence of cruise control causes the most fatigue; which suggests that an aftermarket unit would fill the gap and is the answer. The Evo is beautifully tuned, however the ultra-hi-perf tires if downtuned, e.g., I drive Michelin Sport AS, soften the ride sufficiently to keep the fillings in your head. Each day driving the Evo for me is joy...have raced in the past (course, autocross) and too many other cars are temperamental, which I'm sure you can teach us about. Good luck! Take the dive!
I drive mine about 40 miles daily to work and back and find I feel much safer in this car than any other that I have ever owned. Having the options of accelerating faster, stopping faster and turning sharper than most anything else on the road gives me more "outs", and god knows we need them these days. I do take mine on vacation and have driven 500 miles or more in a day with the car. It actually is not bad at all on long trips thanks to the great seats. The tradeoffs are 21-23 mpg and a much crisper ride (may read "rough" on concrete Hiway seams and any really rough surface.
and...It has a real back seat!

i drive my 05 evo 40 miles plus per day, and all i can say is i love it! as for long trips, the recaros arent really that comfortable after an hour drive at least for me. as for the cruise control that would be a great option if we had it. but oh well i'll sarifice comfort for power.

I've had my IX for a month and love it. It's a bit bumpy on some roads, but other than that I think it's an awesome daily driver. I also have an 03 Impala and I drove it after driving only my Evo for 3 weeks and I hated the Impala... even if it is a smoother ride.
Just to note... you WILL spend money on modding your car, so be ready for that.

I drive 50 miles for work every day. On some days more. I drive it all the fuggin time when not working. I go on long trips fairly often. hit 500 miles in 18 hours this week....
plenty comfortable for it all. All you need is some good music and light traffic (to make it more fun)

I Drive mine every day, and its fun but a little annoying. It just doesn't shift as smooth as i would like, But Its not that bad of a daily driver, 4 doorsm 4 seats, trunk, and its fast soo I am happy. Drove one time to atlantic city, No problems.
Well, I just got back to Tucson from a trip to San Diego and LA. This is my first long ride on my evo (previous trips to Vegas have been in Carlos' (fromwrxtoevo) evo. I gotta say, it's a total different ball game when you drive this car everyday to work than when you take it on the road. I agree that the lack of cruise control is a minus for this car. After a little while, my foot was numb and the seat could be a little more confortable. Other than that, I love this car!!!!!!!!
I gotta give it to evo owners in California, the traffic was horrific. I ended up going from 70mph to about 5pmh for a while. I think that if I lived in a city that has that much traffic, I would probably drive a crappy automatic car to work. I would hate it if something happened to my evo.
Regarless of what we say in here, it will ultimately be your decision to go with this car. I fell in love with it when I drove Carlos' evo for three days when he went out of town. After that, I had to have one.
Good luck with your decision and make sure you are happy with it!!!!

My take on the car for daily driving:
Good seats, good steering wheel, the rest of the interior is cheap plastic. Steering colum has "tilt" with the pivot point down by your feet instead of pivoting up at the steering wheel end, and does not have a telescoping colum. This makes it hard for some people to get a good driving position.
In stock form it is quiet and comfortable as a daily driver as long as you have smooth roads in your area.... it would be miserable to drive on the roads around Detroit on a daily basis though with the stiff suspension.
My take on the car for long highway trips:
Seats are top notch! Very comfortable on long trips. Good fuel economy for a powerful car. The only major pain in the butt for long trips is not having cruise control.

the evo is awesome compared to the stang, i've driven those stangs many times at work, nice interior, roomy for a 2 door, and has a good taste for those who like old school detroit muscle. As for power, a lot of low end but not really up top(good for lane changes), the suspension is rather loose and just seems to only be good at going straight. The evo imo is an all season sports sedan...basically it does what you want it to do, the only thing that i hate is when the you get lag at low rpms due to stop and go...the car just seems to sit there until 3k when boost kicks in, then boom your off again...truely its up to you, i've had my evo for some time now and i dont ever want to give it up and if i do i'll get another one for sure
my commute is 10 miles each way, and i love it, however, if it was stop and go traffic every day, i would need another car(especially after a night of partying the next morning), the clutch wears on you in traffic, but Hooray for me, I go against the grain of traffic every day!.
on the other hand, wartallon is right, i would really like cruise control for a long long drive, and as a anti-cop measure for when you want to relax, and the lack of a headrest cushion sucks for when you are not wearing a helmet. but hey, I live on an island so no worries about long long drives.
