Thinking of Selling my Evo......
Thinking of Selling my Evo......
Lately I have been giving more and more thought to the idea of selling my 03 with 40k on it and buying an 01-04 BMW 300ci, or a 350Z. While I am well aware that neither of the cars will stack up performance wise they both do have there high points (more luxury, will last longer ect..). But I do love my evo and look foreward to driving it everyday.
Currently my car is also worth about the same amount I paid for it a year ago. Also the Evo X will cause our cars to depreciate more once they are released.
I am just a little worried because my brother has a 97 talon tsi (still a 4G63) and it ran amazing until about two years ago when little by little everything on the car began to break (even the motor which had to be replaced by RRE). I dont want to deal with that but at the same time I dont know if Mitsubishi has stepped up their quality control from how it was in 97. The part that has me nervous is my car shares some of the same annoying rattles and noises the Talon had a year before the sh*t hit the fan.
Can anyone else shed some light of this?
Also any input from high mileage Evo's would be appreciated.

You can not compare the build quality of the Evo to the DSM. Evo>DSM.
And to the DSMs credit it is ten years old. Most any Japanese modded turbo car is going to need reconditioning, the cheaper DSMs take more of a beating and change more hands then others do.

Kreionic- Yes it def. will because to most people it will just be the new evo.. any everyone always seems to want whatever is new. also for all we know it could be way faster.
GPTourer- He had to have the motor replaced at 50k due to "crankwalk" pretty much all 2g dsm's had it. but even stupid things like the door handle broken off the car and it only has 88k on the body as of right now

You do proper severe maintenance and your car will last for a long time.

Spectre- Nissan quality control is way better than that of mitsubishi when was the last time you saw an eclipse with over 150k that hadnt had serious problems.. think about how many early 90's 240sx's and 300z's are still going to the track every weekend. Also clever name with the Spectre from the bond movies
1rst of all crankwalk is really not an issue in the EVO 4363 as it was in earlier DSM's
2nd I have to totally disagree the VIII's and IX's, they'll pull a pretty penny in years to come.

The BMW 330i is pretty well built just look out for the window trim falling off on hot days and a few other small probs like that.. but otherwise it'll last forever.
Im aware the evo's dont have crankwalk. I was just pointing out mitsubishi does make mistakes that turn out to be costly
Also Im just trying to figure out whether to keep my car which I do love and continue modding it or just move on while they are in high demand.
The thought of selling it had never crossed my mind until the other day when I drove my brothers talon and it felt the same as my evo.. that kind of planted the seed for this

oh yeah... the window trim bit for the 3 series. i've owned two of them, one being a '99 323i and the other being an '02 330i. both window trims separated from the headliners and bmw wanted $350 to fix it i think.

I think you meant BMW 330Ci, not 300.....anyway, my last car was a '02 BMW 330Ci, and it was a good car, but I gave it up for the EVO. I couldn't see myself going the other way with that. It had leather, performance package (don't know what it did), Harmon Kardon sound system, and "m" wheels. The EVO is superior in the only way that matters: performance. I don't care about leather (I like the cloth Recaros), don't listen to loud music (EVO sound system is fine by me), and I don't mind 4 doors over 2. If you buy the BMW, you will always be left wanting, knowing that you bought a BMW badge and comfort over performance and true satisfaction.

I've heard of handles breaking off, but mine haven't either. Every car has its share of problems and I'm not going to try to convince you by throwing dirt on another choice, but if you really think the 350Z is superior in quality I highly suggest you peruse their forums. I believe an Evo is far better in quality and from what I've heard about 350Z's, I think my DSM has been better to me then what many Nissan owners consider average.
