Question Turbo and Hotside Question

I recently bought a 10.5 Hotside (dual port) & bought a 20G-8 turbo 6 Blade (without Hotside). Should these two parts fit one another for use on my Evo VIII? Anyone see any problems with this?

Any other thoughts are appreciated.

A 20g-8 6 blade that doesn't have a 10.5 hotside? Are you sure it doesn't have a 10.5 hotside? If not, that has to be one of the worst turbos you could buy...6 blade isn't good...20g-8 isn't good...and all that with a 9.8 hotside? Or did you just somehow buy an incomplete turbo with no turbine housing? Either way, not the turbo I think you want to put on your Evo...

^^True, but his question wasnt if we like his choice, it was will the 10.5 fit which it will. But I will agree that the 6-blade 20G-8 isnt the best choice unless you got it super cheap. I have just read about the turbine wheels failing in the 6 blades and compressor surge with the 8 turbo compared to the 9.

He shouldn't use it even if it was free...doesn't matter if it was cheap. Asking if they "fit" is sorta weird, though. I mean...it's a stock turbo, right? And the 10.5 is a stock turbine housing. I don't see how they could possibly NOT fit, and I'd be very surprised if the 20g-8 didn't already have a 10.5 hotside.

Agreed, but maybe he doesnt know the 20G-8 is the same as a stock turbo that is machined to accept the bigger compressor wheel. Never know. Some guys dont research before they buy. Not saying you didnt here blindclown, but it appears not.

Above is the link where I bought the turbo from. I had already purchased the Hot side like a week before to use on my Stock turbo, and thought this turbo would work well with it. It was a good price, so I bought it.

I have never assembled\dis-assembled a turbo before, and when I put the two next to one another, my mind went a little blank when I tried to understand how it went together. Hence the questions.

So again, explain why a 20g-8 6 blade is a bad idea?

Yeah, I did do some research, but obviously not enough. I was a little short for time at that time (no excuse, I know).

Well like I said the 8 is prone to surging over the evo 9 version and the 6 blade turbine wheels can fail whereas the 5 blades seem to hold up. I read that thread and you are right, the guy you bought that off of did not include the turbine housing so you will have to use the 10.5 you bought. It is held on to the other section of the turbo with a v-band clamp. I have never dissembled a turbo either but I will be this weekend to install a 10.5 on my stocker and it looks super easy to do if you pull the turbo. If you leave it in the car as I am going to do it may be harder but only because of clearance issues. You should have not trouble putting this thing together at all. I hate to say search but if you do you will probably feel better about the labor. As for the purchase itself, well......

Okay, so if you were to recommend a Turbo for my Evo VIII, what would you recommend?

So how bad is the 20G-8 turbo really? If I were to install it on my Evo VIII, will I notice any improvments? And will it be worth the money for Installation and Re-flash?

I'm just trying to guage my options.

If it was me, I'd install the 10.5 hotside onto the 20G-8-6 and sell it as a complete unit. Also... sell your original stock turbo, if you still have it, and purchase something like a Buschur Racing 20G-9-5, which is probably more like what you imagined you were getting when you purchased the 20G-8-6 originally. At your power level, with the addition of the 20G-9-5 and an alky kit, you should see a healthy increase in power.
