Welcome to the car world.

Under the hood and by the passenger side fender find the cap labeled "USE APPROVED POWER STEERING FLUID". So, the bottle of fluid you are holding should say "Power Steering Fluid". On the underside of the cap find the short dip stick that is attached to the cap. The fluid level should be maintained somewhere between the "Min" and "Max" marks on the dip stick.

If you are adding fluid and haven't had the system apart then something is wrong and you need to find the source of the leak and have it fixed.
