Is It Okay to Wash the Engine?

It's getting a little dirty and time for a wash job.

Is it okay to wash it at a $.025 car wash? Any precautions needed?

Thanks

Yeah man, cover the air filter. I made that mistake, and had a huge misfire afterwards, and a little white smoke from the exhaust...It eventually went away, but just be carefull...

^^ wow you have an EVO with a distributor. You are the first and only I know. Evos dont have distibutors FYI. I cover the filter, battery and some of the sensors when I clean my engine.

Lets just make it safe to say dont wash under your hood. Cause if you had any other issues afterwards we would have one hell of a time telling you where to check for problems especailly if you wanted to check your distributor. :-)

For you just use a wet rag and wipe it down with soap and water.

just make sure your engine is cool enough to touch before putting water on that block

A good note. And the same goes for the exhaust manifold.. Heck for that matter anything under the hood.

+1. Usually enough water gets under the hood after I wash the car to where I just wipe everything down nicely, comes out very very clean. No need to spray stuff down, unless its like THAT dirty!

just cover whatever you feel like covering up....then you need to use a degreser from vato' zone because just spraying it with water doesnt cut any oil down. BTW tell me when ure on the road because i dont want to be near someone who doesnt know how to spray an engine bay off correctly.......have u ever popped ypure hood on the evo?.....lol

Don't put the engine "dress up foam" under there without covering up your Alternator!! Mine blew when I had a "detailer" use it and NOT cover the alternator!! Learn from my mistakes!
