Arrow Just bought an Evo ... Few questions.

Just got myself a wUsed 2003 Evo and I have a few questions.

I want to keep the car `mostly'` stock, just want to do a few modifications to the car and was wondering what the best intake, and turbo back exhaust is for the money? How much louder does an aftermarket intake make the turbo?

Also, im not looking for 'maximum' hp so a $500 intake is pointless. Just looking for something to add a little more power to it.

Also, is it possible to add a blow off valve to a 100% stock evo? or do you need an intake with a flange already on it to bolt it to it?

Another -- Installing an oil pressure gauge on the car, is it hard, or is it easy? To you need to remove the stock tap from the block and replace it with the T fitting one that autometer would supply? Never had an import car before, always been american muscle

I will post some pictures of the car later when I borrow a camera from my friend, since my battery is dead and my charger is a pos.

Thanks!

evos have bov stock...intakes are not a good idea unless you are tuned for them...tbe will make the car louder...there are literally hundreds of exhaust combos...from stock sounding to loud as hell...good luck

Go to: http://www.ttp-engineering.com/ and E-mail Scott. They sell, install and tune everything for your Evo. Best thing, he is in Florida too. He'll help you, he's the man.

keep it stock if your not going to build a race car.

Other wise you might find yourself on the end of a high-repair bill. These are not cheap cars, everything on them is expensive. Dont get a BOV for the sound. If you want a good sound get a intake. BOV that are vented make 03's run liek ****.

need to put at least an intake on it.... damn import cars, why they so tricky?

american muscle so much easier

so a vented bov is not good for the 03 years? makes it run lean on shifts?

VTA are bad on ALL Evos.

Best bet for an intake is a K&N drop in filter in the stock air box. If you want to keep it "mostly" stock that is the way to go for intake.

There are too many exhausts to list, you will have to search for yourself. Any quality 3" TBE will be more than fine.

You should be able to T off several easy to get to locations for oil pressure, again do a quick search and you will find some how tos with pictures.

To make it easy, since you don't bother to search for these extremely common questions/answers, just click on the link in my sig. That answers all your questions regarding which mods to get. Don't bother with an intake, and don't just get a TBE by itself. You need to get the proper combo of mods and tuning.

Get the Warrtalon package or a reflash, drop in filter, and a nice 3" TBE exhaust from the companies of your choice. If you're that set on getting an intake, get one that Buscher, AMS, Works, TTP or any other high quality tuner could recommend. Remember, any true 3" TBE exhaust will be louder but there are many that are just a tad louder.

If you want a VTA sound with recirc performance go with an APS dual vent BOV and a cone filter with an adapter to bolt up to the stock MAF. Sounds good but not too loud, you will here the turbo very well when making boost. Get tired of the sound reinstall stock airbox. Easy.

Magna flow muffler on a TBE is fairly quiet and has a low freq rumble. Add a resonated test pipe and it would be more quiet. My best advice is buy used stuff from this forum. I've bought a ton of stuff used and saved a bunch of money. With the money you save, get your ECU flashed. Best bang for the buck and will help gas mileage too.

There is a factory oil pressure gauge port above the oil filter that has a plug in it but is ready for a sender and gauge. Search.

Welcome to the evo community, enjoy the ride!

No, you can't adjust the boost through the ECU - that is only when manipulating the boost hoses and restrictor pills. It's best just to get an MBC in order to control the boost directly.

Intaks are dumb I dont eve like mine on my turbo kit I still wish I had the stocker. You want a 3in tbe a good idea is to get the o2 housing as well and get a cat delete that makes the most power. No vta bov on the stock evo. Very bad idea. Also oil gage is easy. Just get the right fitting I got mine from 42draft designs. Its like 8 bucks. When gettin a mbc (just relaying my personal xperience to them) I had a forge and it broke, then I got a brand new hallman and the thing didnt even work out of the box, then I got a dejon and for some reason this one that isnt much to look at, but it sure does work.

turbo back exhaust keep the warranty still? or only cat back? sure you need a hiflow cat to keep it right? i treat my cars very well, but ive had a few friends with evos who had a bunch of problems.

also, i bought a set of the ngk bpr7es plugs, do they work well on a stock evo?

like i said before im not looking to go insane yet, i already have one of those cars in my garage making over 500horsepower, just looking for something to make me a little bit happier. i like the way the exhausts sound on the evos which is why i want to add one of those, and intakes are suppose to make the turbos louder, which is why i want one of those.

Any exhaust you will lose your warranty. It all is technically up to the dealerships discrescion though.

I dont know about your plugs cuse I have a evo 9 and we dont use the same plugs.

Intakes make the car louder but make you lose hp and possibly stall as well. Its up to you if you want to sacrifice hp and stalling just so that you can hear your car louder.

I would just get a downpipe, bigger cat, and a reflash. That's all I plan on doing... it's good for roughly 60hp at the crank and keeping the power up top instead of having it drop off like stock.
