bad news?...white smoke
Well my 9 has about 12k miles on it. Today me and a buddy (vennom) were driving and he noticed when I accelerated I have a cloud of white smoke
. I recently added a fuel pump and a header and we just started noticing this, possibly related? It has not been tuned since i added these. I did some searching and it looks like I am screwed...something with the head or gasket seems to be common. It seems to be idiling ok except when i start it and try to drive when it is cold (it tries to die, but has always been like this).
Anyone know what it maybe? I know its hard to diagnois without seeing it but any inout would be nice. Thanks in advance.
FYI : I have TBE, intake, pro 1 header, 255LPH FP, MCB at about 22-23 psi max, ACT clucth and flywheel, and LICP. Has about 20 total launches on it.

sounds fine to me. are you overheating?? loosing boost?? i would lower your boost slightly also to about 20-21 instead. unless you are tuned, i wouldnt boost that high. another question is-is that when it is cold?? do you have a catalytic converter?? need more info that just "smoke while accelerating" could be just condensation....

I am not overheating or loosing any power. I am tuned so they told me 22-23 is ok but i may turn it down to see.
It was smoking today when it was about 75 outside...however it idles the worst when it is cold (probably normal for everyone). I have no cat. It seems to only smoke when i hit 5k+rpms otherwise its fine.
Also no smoke at idle even when i hit the 2 step.???
Thanks for the help.

maybe its because you added a fp without a tune. wouldnt you be running rich?
if not pressure test your coolant system and see if it leaks. if it looses pressure but you dont see any external leaks than pull the plugs and look in the cyls for coolant.

I believe white smoke can be an indication that coolant is getting into the combustion chamber. Not sure if that holds true for an Evo, but it's usually the case for cars in general.
It happens under full throttle and high load. The smoke is white and not terribly thick but there is a lot of it. I cant really say what it smells like, a little tang of gas maybe a litle oil too/ I am not positive.
I dont know if that helps but we are trying

yeah if it was real rich. but what if its just a little rich. then it would appear white from the rear view right? like i said if thats not it than pressure test the cooling system.

I would suggest a leak down compression test and also a pressurized coolant test.
Also good mechanics have a tester to test for exhasut gas in the coolant.
(Side note - head studs are strongly suggested on modified evos)
good luck
