Need help deciding

Hi, my name is Toua. In a couple of months from now I am going to go and buy myself an Evo , but the thing is that I can’t decide whither to buy an Evo 9 GSR or a MR (considering that fact that I’m a Honda guy so I know nothing about Mitsubishi ) . After doing some research, I know that the MR has 6 speed and the 9 GSR has the 5 speed tranny and also the MR has a little bit of a softer ride then the 9 does. So without going into so many details, can you guys tell me some of the pros can con on the Evo 9 GSR and MR? Also can you tell me why you have select one over the other?

Any help would be nice.

Thanks

I got a regular IX over a IX MR simply for the fact that it is a few thousand dollars cheaper (anywhere from $3k to $6k, depending on how bad the dealership likes to buttrape you) and that the differences in performance and standard features are so minor that it didn't make sense to me to go the "extra mile." I'm not saying the MR is or isn't better than the regular IX; it just wasn't worth the premium to me. Besides, the more recent IX SE includes a lot of the good standard features that the MR has (HIDs, aluminum roof, lightweight BBS wheels but in a unique color) still for a couple thousand or so less, but with the standard 5-speed transmission instead of the MR-exclusive 6-speed, which has had a few issues with some owners.

The 6 speed tranny apparently doesn't take drag racing abuse as well as the 5 speed.

I had the choice between either. A brand new MR, and or brand new IX SE. I chose the SE for many of the same reasons of Deeznuts (abbreviated lol). The SE has the HID lights, the aluminum roof panel, and the awesome wheels and body kit. The only difference is the vortex generators (a cheap mod on www.mitsubishiparts.net - compared to a $400 option from the dealer), the MR has the tein coilovers, and the 6 speed, which is arguably less stout than the 5 speed. The extra price for these options just seemed a little ludicrous. The MR I looked at also had the guage package ($400+ option), which are analog and also known to be inaccurate compared to digital guages.

Are the coilovers/vortex gen's/6 speed worth the extra 5 to 7k? Hardly.

***Forgot the mention the SE also has the Recaro leather seats with the red stitching and such. Sooo flippin sweet looking.***

The MR does NOT have Tein coilovers, it has Bilstein struts that make the ride a bit smoother (although not by much since it's still harsh by average standards, just less so) while providing the same performance as regular IX and IX RS struts.

This is what went through my mind last year, bought a regular IX instead.

If i get the MR-

I dont really need six speed
Im going to buy me new set of wheels anyways
I want to put different gauges
Vortex Gen. would be the last thing on my mind
Im going to drop it and get a new set of coilovers and get rid of the billstein
Its not really a big of a deal if i dont have the MR Badge

So i ended up getting the regular IX

my evo ix gsr have 6 gears >.> and i heard a rumor that they say gsr tranny is better than the mr not sure abt it though
i know a guy who have a normal ix imported from the usa although we had the gsr here which was 5$ cheaper than the ix which was imported into another mistubishi dealer ppl should look carefully before buying , the ix top speed was 220 kmh mine goes above 270+ i cant tell the gauge dont show more being said my car have intake bov full flow downpipe + exhaust
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=210934

gsr ac control looks cool and the behind of the car whats gd about the mistubishi dealers there in USA is that u can choose what stuff u want on ur car + more options + warranty

EDIT for my above post.

I read these forums too much. I *want* tein coilovers, the MR comes in fact with Bilstein shocks as Deeznuts pointed out. haha
