When I need a little "extra" I like to use spit.

You could use white lithium grease, you should be able to find it at most automotive stores, any brand will work. As far as rust goes, well not much you can do other than keep it waxed and keep the paint free of contaminants/damage. Also down in Florida the environmental conditions are more in rusts favor than yours, just keep it clean and keep it waxed. I suppose you could look into a rust proofing service of some sort, but I never really trusted most places that provide such services.

When I change oil I buy M1 in the 5 quart container and end up needing about 4.7 quarts to fill the crankcase. So, there is always a little left over in the container. Some of this goes into a squirt can oiler. BTW, engine oil is what Mitsu recommends for hinges, latches and such so what could be easier?

As for rust protection, new cars come pretty well protected. However, you can buy a product called "Consel Clear M3". This is an oil that is used to protect the steel on sea-going vessels. This oil actually will replace and remove mositure. I had a rear fender on a classic car that filled with rain water and remained that way all winter until I discovered it. But since it was protected with Consel Clear - no rust.

I have the address of the company someplace that makes this product. The smallest amount you could buy the last time I checked was 5 gallons. I have actually used the entire five gallons and need to order more.

I have explained on other boards the process one needs to go through to apply this to a car and having done that I never heard of anyone else doing what I do. I guess it is too much work for most people althought it can be completed in one evening. So, I won't go into the details here unless you request them.

Thumbs up

LOL! On the "spit" quote! White lithium grease or silicone spray on some areas would be best.
