Buying used??? Best year?

Newbie questions.

Always admired the Evo and I am considering purchasing one as a possible daily driver.

It is usually recommeneded to purchase the newest car one can afford. I understand that and I am considering a new one. But I've seen several advertised with less than 30k miles in the $20k - $24k range, about $10k off the current list price for a new one. I also read that Mitsu will only honor the full warranty for the original owner and upon resale its reduced, to 60k I believe.

Is the IX that much better than the previous models? Are there any years that are better than others or to be avoided? I 've read that some of the earlier ones had part throttle drive issues?

Thanks for all the feedback.

Tinker

Newer the better, basically. '06s are better than '05s and '05s are better than '03-'04s.

Get a IX. Simple as that.
No chance of regret, where as if you get an VIII and start having IX envy.. well then you're just gonna be kicking yourself in the ***.

Or if you can find a heavily moded 8 with lots of good supporting mods, then I'd prob be game for that if I were you.

I bought an 03 EVO VIII and I couldn't be happier. I got it for 10K less than a 06 MR. I'm about to have around 4500 in mods don't to my car and it will be faster than any stock 06MR.

i'll have to second this one... this has to be the cleanest evo i ever see. I have seen this car in person and all i can say is he makes me more and more angry every time i do see it because it is always so clean. The car is well taken care of, modded and tuned properly and the guy is a great guy to deal with.

OMG, I wish I would have never looked at that.... 23K for that is a great price. I paid alittle more than that for my car.

Why are the 03/04's to be avoided? I thought I read the earlier cars drive train was a bit more durable and more suitable for mods?

Has there been a steady development of the car or just suttle changes? I believe the motors are essentially the same with the exception of the variable valve timing on the later cars?

Thanks again.

Tinker

P.S. The yellow car is clean, but the color is not for me.

I disagree, I have an 03 and the only problem I have had is with the weak A$$ clutch. I have had it for 9 months now and put 20K mile on it. I am very hard on this car. I have dogged the sh*t out of it and it still runs as hard as the day I had bought it. But I do change the oil and filter every 2500 miles. I don't think you can go wrong with an EVO whatever year. I have had it up to 8000rpms several time with the stock internals to.
