so, going from 2nd to 3rd when the rpms are over 4k and 50% throttle or more,

it almost seems like the shifter is grinding? if that makes any sence? we all know what it sounds like when you grind the gears, and its nothing like that.. no sound comming from the tranny as far as i can tell.

it sounds like its only comming from the shifter.. it does it from 1st -2nd also but nothing like 2nd -3rd..

its not a big prob.. and its not like i cant get it into gear.. and none of the other gears do it.....

is this a normal? any of you have the same thing?

It's normal. The transmissions are a little notchy, and they tend to get better over time.

 

evo 9 , syncro will lube itself and, cold mornings and such, its notchy when shifting, will eventually warm up fluid and shift fine about 30 mins

 

I had the same issue with my 04' STi. I bought it used and the guy abused it. I had this problem shifting from 3rd to 4th or from 2nd to 3rd. Turned out I thought it just needed to warm up becaause it was only once in a while.

Took it in and the 3rd / 4th gear syncro and hub was gone. They replaced it under warnaty.

So if it keeps doing it try and get it looked at if you can.. More than likely its nothing but if you let it go it could be something. The tab for the STi stuff was $3600.
