RPM Issues

If I am not in gear (clutch in) and I rev the engine, the RPM's jump like normal, but seem to stutter or hang at 5400ish RPM. It won't go up to redline. I am not aware of the 06' MR having a 2-step rev-limiter. So any ideas?

Also, the RPM's do not come down as fast as they should. It goes up perfect, and drives awesome, but the revs seem to "hang" for a while and don't drop as fast as I would think they should when the car is being pushed a little. (also when not in gear. stationary or in motion is same, happens intermittantly.)
