New IX MR owner (question inside)

I just want to start by saying hi to everyone here. I picked up a Wicked White Evo IX MR a few weeks ago and decided I might as well start posting here, as I've been doing a lot of reading here for the last month or so. I can tell already that I'm going to learn a lot from this site, and only hope that I can do my part to contribute.

Anyway, the other day I parked the car before class and something caught my eye as I walked away from it (staring at it until the moment it was out of sight, naturally ). I noticed that there was a highly-visible black piece under the front bumper. Here is what I'm talking about:

I just found it odd that this was so noticeable. I decided to find some media pictures of the IX MR and see if they weren't all like this. Unfortunately, it seems that this isn't so. Here are crops from some of the media pics I found:

It seems that that Evo has the same piece, just that it doesn't protrude as much. Perhaps the one on my car got dislodged somehow? I haven't a clue.

Does anyone else have this "problem"? Should I be concerned? I've looked through the photos I took at the dealership, and it seems that it was like this when I bought it. I guess I just didn't notice it before. The car had 3k miles on it when I bought it and still has the 5 year/60,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. If there is indeed something wrong with this piece, would it be an easy fix? Will it be covered under warranty?

I know this is an insignificant detail. It's just that I've been completely **** about taking care of the car during these first few weeks of ownership, and considering how amazing of a car it is, I think that's perfectly normal .

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I also believe you picked a zero lift package whci comes with the wickerbill rear spoiler lip in top of the rear wing.

What it caught my attention is that it looks like you are missing the inside tires fender plastic covers. They are typically black and it goes inside the wheel well.

Carlos I think they are white from the salt. He must have taken his brand new evo in the snow...hehehe...well that's what it's made for.

Let this be your first warning, the stock advans are horrible in the snow. Be extremely careful cause you will slide at speeds of 5mph. If you plan on driving it in the snow get some good all seasons or dedicated winter tire.

Welcome, good luck, happy posting and don't forget the search button!

Ah yes, that piece is also referred to as the following:

Mitsubishi Part # 2424.222
Destined to get F'ed up the second you roll over any sort of bump whatsoever

Don't worry, I'm being super careful with it when it comes to snow. What you see inside the fenders is the result of driving 5 mph through my alley to get to my garage. The streets are plowed, but I'm still careful because of how insanely cold it is. I will be picking up used OEM VIII wheels from someone who listed them here (I'm already glad I signed up ) tomorrow, and slapping some dedicated winter tires on the next day.

On that topic, what would you guys recommend for someone living in a city that gets very, very cold but only has a few big snowstorms each season? I'm not entirely sure what the difference between Winter Performance and Studless Snow and Ice tires is.

To everyone else, thanks for the advice. It's a relief to know I've gone this long without having something go wrong.

Too true. I heard it scrape slightly over a bump the very first day I drove it to school. I'm going to have to be extra extra careful from this moment on.

Doesn't every MR come with the Zero Lift kit? I thought that the Zero Lift kit was an option for the IX and the SE's.
