AMS or Buschurs
AMS or Buschurs
Hey Guys,
Im new to the forum, but I'll make a quick introduction before my question. My daily driver is 04 Vortech G35 making 416whp and just bought a 06 Evo IX with 14k miles for a steal($20k+tax never modded). Trying to make it a weekend car, maybe track only. I don't like taking any shortcuts and such, but I'm wondering which kit would be better. AMS GT35r or DB GT35r. I have about $6000-$8000 to drop at the moment and am looking for about 400-450awhp MAX. Would not want to go over that, since I am selling the G to buy a supercharged ZCP m3. Thanks for the Info guys.

If you only want 400-450whp max, then don't even bother with a GT35R. A GT35R will make 400-450whp MINIMUM with a decent amount of lag. Go for something equivalent to the BR stg4 for supporting mods then something like the Buschur 20g-LT (FP EvoGreen) as your turbo. You can get up to 450 on race gas or alky injection or 400-ish on pump gas...or anywhere in between depending on where you want to be.
The GT35R? Yes, imo, unless you want to spend a lot (more than 6-8k for everything) to only get the minimum out of the turbo while dealing with late spool.
You can get a much more mid-level turbo that will have near-stock spool while making over 400whp. Hell, the stock turbo can make 400whp at its max anyway...

with a mid size turbo and $6k, could I make 400whp? and can the stock tranny hold 400 whp? I won't be dropping the clutch so much as I am not into drag or street racing, more track. Thanks

That will put you close to 400whp on pump gas, but you'll want alky injection to do closer to 450whp on a daily basis...or if the car will be a dedicated track car, then have it tuned for race gas only, which will allow you to reach max power on it in the 450whp range.
The stock drivetrain components can hold 400-450whp no problem, but the stock clutch won't. You'll need a nice clutch like an Exedy Twin that will hold the power and withstand the racing abuse.
Other mods to add or consider:
- MBC
- DV/BOV (if you run over 25psi)
- Downpipe (no need to get an HKS exhaust - use your money wisely on something lighter and more powerful)
- Flash = Tune (don't need both - they are one and the same)
- No need to touch the intake manifold nor TB
- SS o2 housing
- Ported/coated stock exhaust manifold
- LICP and UICP to go with the FMIC

those are good mods, but you can get a much cheaper exhaust than the HKS. I'm not saying is not good, the Buschur TBE is a great exhaust and much cheaper than the HKS. Plus the Buschur is a 3" dp while the hks is only 2.75".
Thanks for all the info, especially to Warr
. Now I'm trying to price everything out. Do you know any good shops to buy these parts at? and if anyone is in SD, CA a good place to tune? Thanks

BTW, wat kind of suspension should i get? I hear that since the MR suspension is decent, I should just get some springs for now. I really just want to lower it for now. Coilovers can come later
Bushur also sells a lovely 50 Trim kit which would easilly make 420WHP on pump gas Dyno Jet Numbers quite easilly and on the IX it would spool amazingly fast. 450 WHP is no big deal on the stock bottom end.
