I know of six crashes. Two roll-overs, one in the trees, one deer hit , and two minors that ment the vehicle was repairable.
The evo is an incredibly SAFE vehicle which has proven to protect its occupants very well.

But in the hands of a college students irresponsible friends??? sounds like your parents need to adopt another child, who do I call mom and dad?

Volvo's are safe cars. But be sure to stay on top of the maintenance. Or it will nickle and dime you to death.

or get a SAAB-uru http://saab92x.com/ I am not sure if you can get a last years model anymore though.
2006 was the last year. GM discount though!

Actually the STI is a very safe car. That was a deciding factor in my purchase concidering I drive a 4 year old and 18 month old all the time. I think part of the lower rating for the evo is a smaller front bumper to make room for the intercooler. Anyway I have seen the evo take some conciderable damage and the occupants walk away. I recall seeing a vid of a white evo ripping it up at a track then rolling three times and nobody was hurt.

The Evo gets its bad rep on impact crash test ratings from SIDE impacts

As seen here in the 2004 model (IE mine):
http://www.automallusa.net/2004/mits...n/ratings.html

The newer 2006 model retified this with of course some reinforcement :P

I was not able to find an STI on the site but damn this looks bad..

JUST BE CAREFUL! You especially have to use common sense with a powerful car like an evo. It will treat you right and be safe like most any other car as long as you don't drive crazy. I see it all the time. Teenagers say "I'm a responsible driver" until they get a fast car.

Subaru Legacy GT also has great crash ratings. One of the safer cars out there so I hear. If safety is your main concern, you may want to go that route.
