5K Oil Change Due

Cna my "friend" even dare take his car to a Mitsu dealer for an oil change since he has a TBE with a CEL on (got the blasted foulers last night and needs to drill that sumbeotch out). Worried about warranty.

Is it safe to just do your oil oil change or take it to a grease monkey armed with a factory filter and M1? Will this anger the warranty gods at Mitsu?

Thanks.

No Mitsu does not warranty an oil change but it is a requirement to have your oil change to maintain your warranty.

My question is that is a receipt from Jiffy Lube sufficient? Is me doing it myself in my garage sufficient?

Thanks.

Edit:

But the question is this, should my "friend" be worried about dealership bussting his warranty?

I would not take it to the dealer with a tbe. either change it yourself or take it to jiffylube or whatever. it's incredibly easy to change, you need short plastic ramps, and one of those oil drain pans that you can put the cap on and take somewhere to recycle. If you want to keep factory filters on it then go by mitsu in a different car and buy a few of them and the crush washers. When you take your oil drain plug out put a new crush washer on it at least every 2 oil changes.

You can have your oil changed anywhere you please. Just make sure and put Mobil 1 or equivalent in it ( I would put the Mobil 1 in it for warranty purposes ). If you do it yourself your supposed to keep the receipt for the oil / filter purchase. I always buy the filters from my dealer so they can just look back on their own damn records if they want to question me about it. Also you can fill in the maintenace log in your owners manual to be safe. A receipt from Jiffy, walmart, whatever will work. If you keep up the maintenance it will probably never be an issue because you can tell when a car has never had the oil changed.

Most jiffy lube type places give you a milage in and a last known milage... so if you can compile the records Im sure you would be fine in that fact.

I don't think Mistu will void your warranty if you do your own oil change or if you don't keep track of your oil changed.

Well my dealer charges $80 for an oil change, if you want to pay that much or money isn't a problem to you then go ahead. But the finance manager told me that I can change the exhaust on my car, but not the down pipe and cat so I would becareful if I were you.

Thanks Guys.

5k oil change? This is the second oil change but the first with a TBE. My "friend" is intending to keep the severe duty cycle as his daily commute is a killer but that's how the Evo get's paid for.

Don't have the bible with me here but what oil weight is good for DFW?

just do it yourself and keep the receipts.Mobil One 10w30,stock oil filter. And if i were you i would change it at 3k instead of 5k. For the cost of an oil change doing yourself it is pretty cheap insurance for your turbo bearings.

the guy at the dealership said that they would do it for free just as long as we buy the oil. which is like 20 bucks. if you dont buy the oil they can supply the oil for 50 bucks. and shouldnt you change the oil every 3000 miles not 5000?

5000 miles, the oil is fine per oil analysis tests w/ AMSOIL.

As others said, do it yourself. You will save money, and gain knowledge of the expensive machine you rely upon to get you places (quickly :P).

You will be just 1 step closer to understanding how it works.
