MIVEC or dealer error?

Hi. I have a rythmic scraping-type noise coming from what seemed like behind my timing belt cover. Since the EVO is fairly new, I took it to the dealer to have it checked. He said the MIVEC system is causing the noise and every EVO they started on the lot mad the same noise. He told me it was normal and not to worry but It would be nice to have a second opinion. If anyone else has experienced something similar, your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would have to say negative to that one. MIVEC has never made noise on any car I have tuned, nor did it make any noise at all on my car when I picked it up. It was 4 miles old at the time.

are you mistaking the sound of engine? because everyone knows the evo is notorious for lifter noise....as well as MITSUBI**** in general lol

what he is referring to is not lifter tick, its an obvious damn near grinding noise coming from what sounds like the cam gears. I found another thread on here when mine started happening and someone said it was a bad bearing in the alternator and the dealer replaced it under warranty and the sound left. There were quite a few of us in that thread with the same problem.... if you get under your car with it running you can hear it better at the alternator. Good luck with getting it repaired. i hope your stealership is better than the one here

Man never listen to what Dealers has to say, 80% of them just BS there way out to not bother with any bad situation you have. And yes i dont think the mivec would have that sound. Take it to another dealer would be best bet. Good luck on it.

What could be grinding? My car's ac compressor makes some pretty gnarly pulley noise but they wont fix it under warranty because it still works (f@#in ). Maybe the next time I'm out of town I'll have it looked at.

Can you believe dealer tells me there is still nothing wrong and they won't change the alt. because the car's too new and they say they can't find anything wrong with it? Dammit why did I never learn engines!! Biqric09..Taking you advice and finding another dealer. If I can..(Not many Mitsu. dealers in Northern New Jersey)
