wouldn't i be able to change it to royal purple or something and then when something does happen change the fluids back to OEM?

Or how about using OEM fluids to begin with so you would not have to worry about it later.

it's never too early to change fluid, fluid cost is way less then expensive repair.

I change my transfer case oil every 5K miles, or every other oil change. Cheap to me, and the oil looks like tar when it comes out of the TC.
