Another stupid noise thread.

... Sorry to have to post yet another one of these threads, but I can't seem to find an answer. When I turn left I get a wobble/clunk from the passenger wheel well. It is not consistent enough to sound like an axle click, nor does ONLY happen when hitting bumps so I don't think its suspension related. I searched the forums and read about loose bolts and such hitting the wheel, so I took it to the stealer and they said everything was tight in the front end.

It is driving me crazy, I've had the car for 4 weeks and it has gotten progressively louder, yet I still cannot find the source of the noise. I've taken the wheel off twice checking for loose/broken parts myself, but to no avail.

HELP!!! I'm going insane.

-Mike

It's the evo clunk, turn up the music louder in the car. People now believe it's because rocks/debris get stuck in the struts dam. Some have been successful in just brushing out the debris; unfortunately, the debris will come back in later down the road

My thunk went away when I upgraded to Buddy Club coilovers. I think it had to do with the upper strut mounts though cause it's soft rubber and allowed alot of play. Car steers more precisely now. You can replace just the upper camber plate on the factory struts with aftermarket solid ones. Have not seen if they alone cure the problem thou. Lancer shop sells them along with alot of other places.

Good luck, I know it's freakin annoying.

I have a 03 EVO just like you. I heard a loud clunk one day going down a semi-steep driveway at a bit higher than normal speeds. It made a loud metal clunk as if the spring/strut/ moved or turned.

Since then I just take it easy on the corners and I have had no issues.

I do believe it's just the stock suspension having too much play; similar to a lot of other things on the EVO: Shift bushings, linkage, etc.

My car is completely stock.

Thanks for the response guys, I guess I'll just have to save up and get some suspension goodies...

I crossed some RR tracks today and it sounded like I was losing the front end. It has always made this noise. I've been under the car and checked for anything loose. Nothing is. So, I say, normal.
