Evo Insurance questions

I will be taking the Evo to a point where it will qualify as a weekend/occasional use vehicle. I would like to save some money on insurance as I'll be getting a daily driver which must also be insured. I've made a few calls, but would appreciate some additional input. Who are you using for this type of insurance and are you happy with your coverage?

I think if the EVO is the only car you have then buying another DD will make your insurane go down. Example. I sold my old winter beater and my insurance was to go from about $1k/yr to $1,700/yr. Then I bought a beater for $2k and they listed me as the primary on that and it went back down to $1k. I just turned 25 so now for both vehicles I pay about $850 per year. Full coverage on the EVO.

FYI, if your car isnt paid completely off you may not be able to drop any coverages on it. I store my car car 5 months out of the year and the bank said I must keep full coverage. Next winter when I own the car I am getting storage insurance to save a good bit of $$$. <== Somewhat similar to your situation.

Yea, but what about taking it out once in a while? Storing my evo is not a problem. Even though my bank requires full coverage, when it's sitting I call my iunsurance agent and tell him to take it off. Bank doesn't know.

They require you to have full coverage only when you sign the paperwork, they don't know the status afterwards. At least with my bank. And my insurance agent is pretty cool too. Been with him for over 6 years.

Have 2 cars listed, by business etc. Also my family has 4 cars with him. House and so on

It's not a question of reducing the coverage. With specialty car insurance you can insure for a "specified amount". That way, should something happen to your car, you can recoop the cost of all of your mods and tuning costs. There are a few stipulations like mileage driven, year of car and even type of car they will cover. Companies such as Sneed, Hagerty and ANPAC are a few.

My first pass with a company took the premium from $1200/yr to $600/yr.
Just looking for other options before making a decision.

I'm using Nationwide, and for a 6 month premium, I pay about $550. That's with Full Coverage. So I would try them.

Not trying to be a dxck, but you are all missing the point. I have full coverage on my car already. That's not a problem. I'm not interested in fabricating some BS about how many miles I drive my car. I am looking for companies that insure your car as a Modified, Specialty, Exotic, etc. type of car. The insurance is a "specified amount" type. NOT the current Blue Book value of your car. Standard insurance policies don't take into consideration things like custom paint, body kits, upgraded turbo systems, coilovers, etc. If your car is in an accident or is stolen you lose the value of all those upgrades. There ain't no place in the book that gives a value for AEM EMS add $1500.00.
Please only post if you are familiar with the thread title or need some info that this thread may generate. Thanks.

As funny as it may sound, I saved a lot of money switching to GEICO!

No pun intended. I had Progressive for a long time (9yrs) and saved around ($1000) switching to GEICO earlier this year.

Yes, Full Coverage Insurance on an Evo here in TX is kinda high. I was paying close to $2K, and now it's around $900 for 2 cars both will Full Coverage.

One day you will realize you get what you pay for and it will suck. I went through Nationwide and got screwed.

Just to give an example of the types of savings available...I listed my car with a value of $48,000.00 and the quote I got was for $753.00/year. That was with American Hobbyist.

I believe you can ask them to basically appraise the vehicle and they will take a look at the car you show them receipts for parts installed etc. and then they will insure you based on the appraised value of the vehicle instead of whatever blue book is

If a tree falls through your garage or someone drives through it and hits the parked evo, your home insurance won't cover it. Neither will you car insurance if you don't have any. Banks and Credit Unions are required to check on the insurance a certain amount of times throughout the year also. I work for a CU and they've mentioned this before.
