a little embarrasing
its launch control. meens at a dead stop when you push the gas pedle down the rev's go to where you set it. mine in at 5850. then you can also build boost to. thats a fast sumery of 2 step.

If you run an aftermarkert standalone ECU such as AEM. There is a setting that allows you to have a better launch thru 2step boost controll, think of it as a launch controll....or someone with some hands on experience can better tell you how this works.....
I'm not too good with words but I'll try and explain, basically it's an additional rev limiter which is activated when your not moving and the clutch is pushed in, you floor the gas (with the clutch in) and it will hit the rev limiter (usually 5500rpms-6000rpms), by doing this, you put a load on the engine and it spools the turbo which allows you to start boosting before you launch which gives you a more agressive launch. You can either get this programed through a flash or most types of EMS's. If I left anything out, someone feel free to correct me.

Dj UNK has a song called the 2 step, im pretty sure they explain it there.. haha
But on a serious note, you need to go to a tuner, if you dont know how to do this basic ecu mod, dont try.

What is more stressful from a launch perspective.. dropping the clutch at 5k or 7k? Neither is particularly friendly but you might live a few more times at 5k.
There are several reasons for a 2 step which have been mentioned:
1. Helps limit the stress of a launch - if desired
2. Create a consistent and controlled launch
3. Helps to build boost
Think of it this way - you are at the track and lets presume you know you cut your best 60ft times when you launch at 3k (this is an example). What is easier, mashing your foot to the floor and letting the 2 step bounce at 3k or trying to steady your foot there to keep 3k and not get too excited and either bog or over rev when you see that 3rd yellow.
I am sure thee is more, but its 8am and I only got 3hrs of sleep and my brain hurts already.
