steering help!!!
i just recently had a performance car shop install a 2.4 race engine in my evo. i noticed that the steering wheel is a little crooked to the right when i drive straight. now im a newbie with cars and all i do is have people hookem up for me. what could i do to fix this prob and how much should a mechanic charge??? thanx
Just so you know.....The steering wheel is centered by making one tie rod longer and the opposite side shorter - they are threaded. Both sides need adjusting in order to maintain the proper toe setting.
I'll throw this in for extra credit....Tie rod ends (the part out by the wheel) were good for 60-80K on DSMs. Then they got loose. Maybe Evo got better tie rod ends but maybe they are the same. Time will tell. Anyway, if you have this mileage you should watch for this.
Tie rod ends are easy to check if you have the wheel off. Grasp the rotor with both hands and try to move it back and forth while watching the tie rod end. Any movement where the rod end attaches to the hub is reason for replacement.

thanx guys for helping me out......but i think 1 mechanic said that when the engine was installed he said something about a tooth being off when he reasembled the engine. they said they have to drop my subframe in order to fix the problem
