my buddy has an 04 sti and something broke but not sure what it is. I figured you guys would know. He launched and immediatly heard something pulled over and it sounded like the axle. when he tries to take off there is a squeal comming from the rear. When he puts the acd control to the front he can drive without the noise. What wrong rear diff blew? thanks

 

there is a vid on streetfire.net of the same sound your descibing, the guy launched his wrx at 6k multiple times and the all the sudden on the last launch something snapped and then when he tried to move it made a weird squeel noise. I think the end result was a broken rear axle.

 

^^^ Yup, tell your bud to stop launching these cars especially if he's just gonna break 'em.

Hope he's got some $ saved up.

 

Sounds like the rear axle or the rear differential. Either way, he is out quite a bit of money

 

hes not out to bad a rear diff is 300 and a rear axle isnt too expensive just hard to find. Where could he look for an upgraded axle

Ha Ha HA it sounded like the car had to take a dump but the farts where slipping out.

i thought the same thing, maybe it was the guys voice that gave it away
