I am worried about this as well as I hope to buy one this summer when I get some extra cash. My car is almost 3 years old and sits in the direct sunlight when not in storage. I hope the new prepainted bumper with the new paint that has never seen sun will match my old paint. I guess a good test is my new spoiler I am getting on Monday. All the dealer did was pull my paint code so if that thing works out well it will make me feel much more confident in JDM IX rear purchase.

I didnt even care untill I let my girlfriend park now its an issue lmao, but besides that why would i need to remove the OEM crashbar, i thought the JDM rears were off of 9's and its a direct fitament, and that you only need to do that for 8's or am i wrong

Speed element is a great place to get the JDM rear bumper. I know he got a couple in yesterday, but you should check with him. Great service and great price.

The U.S spec OEM rear crash bar will need to be removed. In Japan, these is no rear crash bar in place. The rear crash bar that we have is to meet the 5mph bumper to bumper crash safety standard mandated by DOT.

that bar is only good for absorbing impact up to 5mph.. anything faster will be destroyed regardless..

there actually is a JDM crashbar but it is not USDM and perhaps does not meet USDM crash bar standards, but who knows because the USDM IXs and USDM VIIIs have the same rear crash bar and same bumper cover. So perhaps Mitsu just didnt want the hassle of going through the legalities of proving the JDM bar was USDM "worthy". Regardless, there are vendors on here who can and do import and sell the JDM crash bar but if you are like me, then you will just trim the one you have as it will maybe still be good for a 4mph impact? lol....Better than nothing.
