Newbi Exhaust ?'s
Newbi Exhaust ?'s
I was looking for an exhaust for the evo, and got confused on what to get. Some people are telling me to get just the exhaust some are saying full tbe exhaust.
I was wondering what are the parts of the exhaust downpipe cat, cat del., exhaust?
I want to get the most power out of mine, it doesn't matter how loud it is or anything just wanted the best set up for a car to make around 450-500 whp.
Stick with 3"? or 4"?
comparing b\t HKS Ti or buschur or turbo xs or ams or jun bl and greddy ti

If you want 450-500whp definitely a 3inch TBE is the way to go.
As far as exhaust it goes:
Exhaust Manifold (A.K.A. Header)

Turbo
02 Housing

Downpipe

Catalytic Convertor (Which some replace with a test pipe)
Test-Pipe
Mid Pipe Section is the Top Pipe and the Cat-Back section is the piece of pipe with the muffler.

The HKS has a neckdown. Some people don't like that and some people could care less.
The Buschur and AMS In My Opinion are nice quality exhaust systems. I personally prefer one with no neckdowns.

No it is one of the lightest systems offered though.
A 3inch pipe is a 3inch pipe Period.
An Ideal system would be a 3inch TBE with test-pipe and no resonators, with as less bends as possible.
If your going to stay stock turbo I would suggest porting the manifold instead of buying an aftermarket manifold.
A nice exhaust set-up would be (Just using Buschur as an example)
Buschur Ported Exhaust manifold
Buschur Ported Turbine Housing
Buschur 02 Housing
Buschur 3inch TBE with testpipe
That would yield Excellent flow!

With a test pipe you will most likly NOT pass emissions. Keep your stock catalytic convertor and every 5 years when you have to go through inspection put it back on. Problem solved. This is only 4 bolts and will not take you long at all too do.
Some aftermarket manifolds will not work with all aftermarket turbo kits.
Your best bet is to port your stock manifold and when you decide on which turbokit you want then choose your manifold accordingly.
Also a good majority of quality aftermarket turbo kits will come with their own manifold.

thanks a lot, i think i'm going to go with the buschur racing set up, you think thats the best mod after mbc and boost gauges, exhaust and a tune by topspeed afterwards headers?
You should not do a MBC then a tune.....The correct way of doing things would be tune and MBC at the same time.
If I were you I would save and get all your bolt ons, then get a Tune.
For example I have:
K&N Drop In Filter
Buschur Racing 02 housing
Ultimate Racing 3inch downpipe
Invidia 3inch Test Pipe
Ultimate Racing 3inch Cat-back
Nisei Lower Intercooler Pipe
Defi 60mm BF Amber Boost Gauge and Control Unit II
I have the following sitting in my room:
Walboro 255 Fuel Pump
HKS RS Suction Intake
Hallman PRO RX Manual Boost Controller
I am waiting to make an appointment with Sean Ivey. He is going to install the 3 above mentioned parts and then dyno tune my car that exact same day.
I do not know if headers will cause your car to become out of tune. But I do know that in order to maximize all of your parts you should have them all installed and then tuned.
Your welcome, glad I could help.
