Race Gas?...or was i ripped

Ok guys this is about some Sunoco 110 race fuel that i got today from one of Sunoco's authorized dealers. He does not have a pump but is listed on Sunoco's website as a dealer. He went today to pick up the gas and then sold me the gas as 100% 110 octane race fuel.(purple) I have run this fuel in several of my race ATV motors and it had a very distinct smell to it, nothing like regular gasoline. The gas i recieved today definitely has the smell of regular unleaded gas so I am thinking the guy mixed it with the pump gas to make some extra cash. Does anyone know if 110 they have purchased smells anything like regular gas? Sorry for the long post.

You would need to get a Octane Analyzer

yeah i saw that octane tester on the internet...same site... but way to much $. I was just curious to see if anyone else had smelled 110 in the can (not burning from exhaust) and remebers if it had a gassy odor to it. I just dont remember it smelling that way.

life lesson number 353.

you're not supposed to huff the gas. It should be purple. Pour some into something clear, and look for the dye.

Should have come in a sealed, 5gal can. I doubt he could have altered it unless the seal was broken.

fuels at diffrent grades have a diffrent specific gravity..take sample in a 500 ml cylinder use a hydrometer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrometer that will give you a pretty close rating..now just knowing the spec. gravity of 110..you might be able to get that from sunoco..

It should be purple, yet clear enough to see through if it came from sonoco or VP.

Just googled Sunoco race gas. 110 octane is Purple and leaded. Your exhaust should turn white and the race gas has a very nice distinct smell.
