It's just like any other used car, some were beat and some were babied. You can tell a lot about the car by talking with the owner and looking at the condition of the car. If the paint is immaculate, it still has the factory clutch and makes no funny noises when driving it should be fine. If you find one on a forum just check the owners posts, that will tell you a lot. I bought my 03 (with HIDs by the way) used with 34k miles and still on the factory clutch. It had a bunch of mods, but from speaking with the previous owner I could tell he took care of the car. The car was in AL and I was in OH, we met in TN and I could tell immediately that the car was perfect. I paid for it, drove it home and took it to the road course about a month later. It is perfect. 40k now, a couple road courses, ran a 12.7 at the track still on the factory clutch and still perfect.

Never buy a car with 10k miles/year or more.

Never buy a car from a kid that doesn't know what he is talking about.

Don't buy an Evo with an upgraded clutch, you know it has been launched more than once.

Never buy a car with negleced paint or dirty interior, you can bet the rest of the car was treated the same way.

I would try to stick with new, but if used would fit your budget, just make sure you inspect it first @ a mechanic you can trust.

Worst comes to worst, buy one with alot of miles and rebuild the engine to a monser .

I suggest buy one that past a certified inspection from a Mitsu dealership. This way any problems that do come up are covered under the warranty.

04 GSR with HIDs. bought mine with 9k miles. I had to replace the clutch but that's it. 2 years later, she still runs like a champ.

Got my 04 last year with 22k miles on it. Only one owner before me and the guy even had a spreadsheet for every gas tank fillup. Fully stock and it now has 28k miles on it with stock clutch and no problems. Gotta take it in to the Dealer for the pealing clear on the spoiler but thats about it.
So if you look hard enough you can find a used one that will fit what you are looking for and within your budget. Don't rush it as it will take time to find the right one though.

I doubt you'll be able to get that car out the door for less than 30k unless your bargaining skills are top notch. and correct me if I'm wrong but I though "out the door" meant with all the other charges included such as tax, registration, etc.

so the car's sticker price is $33874. plus $2032 in taxes alone. thats a total of
$35906. so if you think you can make them give you a 6k discount go for it but I doubt it.

there's nothing wrong with buying used as long as the car was taken care of. run a carfax but don't trust it 100%. look for signs of body work because not every accident gets reported to the insurance company or to the cops.
