thanks guys
A "wideband" is a term used for Air/Fuel ratio monitors. Typically they read from 10.0-18.0 of air/fuel mixture. The number is used in an equation such as 10:1 or so on with the first number being how many parts of air and second being parts of fuel. The lower the first number the "richer" the A/F mixture and conversely the higher the first number the "leaner" the mix. Using a "wideband" oxygen sensor you can detect a more accurate and precise change of the A/F's. A "narrow band" is less accurate and as far as I know no-one uses them for tuning.
The primary purpose for this monitor (or gauge) is the accurately determine if your ECU is properly controlling the air/fuel mixture. When tuning this information is the most important when tuning a boosted car as running too lean can cause detonation and make things go "kaboom". Running too rich can foul plugs and create carbon build up and generally make the engine perform below it's capability.
Hope that helps.
