CAIS or K&N Filter only????
CAIS or K&N Filter only????
I'm looking to do some upgrades and I want to know if putting an K&N filter is better than installing an injen CAIS system. Also what is HP gains. Is the CAIS system an improvment or will it cause me to loose power?
Welcome to the boards. Before you get flamed.....searching on this board is a good thing. Lots of information to be had with little effort.
RRM CAI FTW!!!

Seriously, all CAI's are similar....it all comes down to brand preference.

Thats acctually why I started this thread. I kept searching and I couldn't get a direct answer. But the thing you said about the different brands help. The thing I'm trying to figure out is there a big difference from the stock intake system to the CAIS. Also my camber kit that I order from you guys came in yesturday. Thanks.

Read the "Performance Part Review" thread that's stickied at the top of this forum. There's several reviews of various CAIs on the first page of the thread and probably more as you go through it.
Oh yeah - the problem with your search might be that you're doing it for "CAIS" - CAI is short for Cold Air Intake. I'm not sure where you got CAIS from or what it might stand for...

Thank you very much for the help. What kind of gains do you think I'll be seeing.
Also side note for the lancer fans, My car is stock with axis 18" rims lowered and with a K&N drop in filter. I beat a 2003 nissa altima and a 1984 e30 bmw in line 6. All were stock and I beat them on the street with about a cars length. Man this car is faster than I thought.

I found a thread that said that you loose low end torque but you feel it after 5000 rpm. I don't know if I like the sound of that. I might have to wait until I have enough money to get a piggy back to fix that problem first.
I would say instead of getting the piggy get the Pulley...I think that should be a little easier on the credits since from what I have been told, it gives you more low to mid end torque. Once I get the money Im going to buy the UD Pulley and I will tell you what I think. Im sure others will know
I've had my EVO IX for almost 2 months and a friend bought me the K&N drop-in filter as a gift. The power gains aren't really noticeable, but the car does idle much smoother and the throttle feels a tiny bit more responsive. But, it also seems to smooth out the turbo boost response...seems less obvious that the turbo just blasted to 19psi. So, if you really like the way that turbo boost feels with the stock air filter, it will feel a bit different with the K&N. I think it's a nice cheap upgrade, but if you want real power gains get a CAI, TBE and a tune.
Here's a dyno chart for stock and K&N filter installed.
