Used Car Tests
Used Car Tests
Hello all @ EvoM,
Long-time lurker, first time poster of course
I've recently started a search for a decently priced evo, and came across an Evo9 SE w/ only 1,200 miles on it for 25,000. I'm assuming that's a great deal, but it has me worried. It's a private party seller, and I just started contact with him.
Before test driving, what tests should I run? From lurking I managed to find 2 things: Something about the Transfer Case, and pushing it in 5th gear to see if I could hear the 'death whine', and see about the clutch.
Can anyone else recommend other tests to run? And if this deal is good (or too good to be true?)
Thanks in advance!

my new evo purchase.
I just got an evo myself about a 3 weeks ago. This will be my first real post on this form. I purchased an 2005 that had 2300 miles on it. I was excitied about it like anyone would be. After i got it home i started really going over the car again. The first thing i noticed was the radio doesnt work. Cheack and the harness was all cut up. Second thing i noticed was the acd button after coming online and looking/reading about it i found that the car had a cluster from an 03-04 because it was missing the acd selected box on the cluster. Found that the car really has about 12,000 miles on it. Only reason i found that out was i came across someone who knows the original owner. I have spent all my first moneth on this car fixing and discoving all kinds of things about this car some good some bad.
I guess if i was buying another evo i would:
Cheack for all vins on every panels
Make sure right cluster is in car
take off the time belt cover andlook at belt
Look for vacum lines that were cut or not stock
inside of tires (make sure they have even amounts of tread
Look for scratchs around the cluster to see if the bolts have been takin off before to put check engine light bulbs.
and if your feeling on with the car take it to get inspected by a tech.

I'd be shocked if that car has problems with 1,200 miles but you could log a run in it and pull the codes to see if it's healthy, the rest you should find out by driving it.
