This has been posted several times a few months ago. The "new" EPA ratings aren't really anything special. For the most part, all they did was subtract two from both city and highway ratings without any new tests involving real-world situations. Only a few hybrid vehicles with questionable ratings (i.e., Toyota Prius) were actually retested.
To put this into perspective....
I have a 1996 ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor I drive every day, its averaging nearly the SAME as the 2003 Mitsubishi Evolution... My experience was MPG on both of the cars was better in my daily drive, both averaging about 24mpg on the highway..
What does that mean? Well, it costs the same to drive either car, I threw my honda into the chart to give it some scale..

Give that some thought next time you go to drive all over the place to find something you want to buy... After 20-40 miles, plus sales tax... Cheaper to shop online and pay shipping 90% of the time.
