tial wastegate function

Ok i almost have all the bolt ons my ix .. current mods include

AMS TBE
Invidia 02 Housing
AMS FMIC
AMS LICP
Walbro FP
Buschur Racing Intake
GSC S1's

all tuned ofcourse

I've decided to go with the AMS 50 trim. Now i woudn't call myself a complete noob, but what is a 'tial wastegate'? does this cancel the stock DV? what is the function of the tial wastegate?

I did search but my service came up with over 300 threads..i just need some basic info on it.

Thanks

a tial wastegate replaces the internal stock wastegate on the turbo, and no i dont think ams sells it w/o the downpipe and o2 housing, im guesing you need it to adapt to their kit and the intake tube helps adapt as well

buschur is the way to go if u dont wanna buy the extra parts

Well the outlet on the turbo is different so the flange on the dp has to change, along with the routing of the licp compared to stock. Get ahold of Eric Gaudi at AMS he will take care of you.

you're gonna need a new exhaust manifold too if you are going to an external wastegate. One that's flanged for the turbo you're getting and for the wastegate

Well when your only boosting to 22 pounds the turbo is making ## amount and all that extra boost gets dumped by the waste gate into the exhaust, or atleast thats how I understand it...

Is there any adjusting to this wastegate or is it preset?

The wastegate controls boost pressure. When a preset level is reached, a valve opens up and allows exhaust gases to bypass the exhaust side of the turbo preventing the turbo continuing to spool to higher boost levels. The stock turbo is internally gated, which means the wastegate is built right into the turbo. Turbos that are not internally gated need to be used in conjunction with an external wastegate to control the boost levels. The tial wastegate is a fine piece, you'll love it.

Thanks for the detailed reply. So from my understanding, the tial wastegate takes place of the stock 11psi wastegate actuator?

I don't think this was ever answered for you. There is a spring inside the wastegate for a preset boost level. This spring can be changed out for different rated springs i.e. 1 bar (14.5psi), 1.1 bar (15.95psi), 1.4 bar (20.3psi) The springs are identified by color/size. You can most likely find a chart for the springs on any dealers website. I know extremepsi has them. Anyways aside from changing out the spring to adjust boost pressure, you can also raise boost pressure with a boost controller like on an internally gated turbo.
