If there were no compression it would spin easily. Jumping the battery will not make it re-charge. You need to charge the battery.

You most likely do not have some electrical component connected. Are the ignitions connected? Did you disconnect the fuel pump? How about the fuses, maybe you popped one?

Is the ECU connected?

Check out this pdf, ignition section from the EVO 8 service manual.

I just added another pdf regarding engine assembly and disassembly.

If there were no compression I would guess the cams weren't spinning but were keep valves in their open position.

that and did tq the bolts to spec causing it to spin.

Either way he needs to give us a little bit more detail about his readings.. makes a diffrence if there is some compression to no compression

  1. Did you do any other work than the cams?
  2. Does the motor/cams turn when you turn the motor by hand?
  3. Is the starter install correctly?
  4. Are you sure the cams are aligned correctly?
  5. Did you check the spark by pulling a plug and running it out of the car?

if you have no compression sounds like all your valves are open.. and not closing or your head is not on correctly at all ( this shedded more light as you said you changed your headstuds)

Did you tq your head to specs?
2nd did you follow the tq pattern of the head bolts indicated by the evo shop manual?
3rd. Same thing goes with the cam retainers, did you tq them to specs and did you follow the torquing pattern indicated by the shop manual?
