OBDII Scanner

So my dad just bought an older Mazda 4cyl pickup. Long story short he's having some problems with the truck and is looking into getting a scanner to see what kinds of codes its throwing. I have wanted to get an OBDII anyways just because its a good diagnostic tool to have laying around especially owning an Evo.

I dont know much about the scanners and am looking for some help or direction. My dads looking for one that has a run mode( I do not know iff they all have them.)

Basically what is a good scanner to get, why, and where could i read more about these. Thanks everyone in advance

I have a C Reader (or maybe Creader). I believe you can get them from Harbor Freight for $40-50. Cheap and it seems to work well.

go to amazon, they have generic obd2 scanners that does the job.

I personally have a Innova (sp?) OBD1 & OBD2 scanner because I used to
fix E36 & E46 BMW's on the side and fix my own, family and friends cars.

The actrons are excellent, and rugged units....I have one and it has never failed me. I paid about $150 for it and it has paid for itself over and over again

Get one that has datastream and graphing capability. That helps out and don't add too much to the cost. You could get a pretty good one for probably 2-300.
