Bump for the OP.
I'm wondering some of the same things since I don't really want any smog hassles like I've had with past cars.

go MBC and tune....or just tune....way more power....aftermarket intakes could hurt your performance if your not tuned for it. i would say worst first mod in my opinion.

^worst first mod would be vta bov

i would go aem intake with the ones you listed, but i heard of some fitment problems.
DO NOT get the KnN Typhoon

and for the intake making the car lose power, i definitely did not notice any negative effects, but noticed my turbo spooling faster

Can you guys post pics of how your intakes look if you went with the system and not the filter?

I would go TBE however, I'm in CALI and again the problem are cops. So trying to be as stealthy/legal as possible.

Tuning is something that I will do later on, not right now though, I want to get the mods first and then tune it. Saves money to not having to tune after every mod. So far it looks like AEM system or the Air Filter only. I went to the aempower.com site however nothing about the Evo 9 systems.

I have a aem intake, picked it up used for $60.....fitment is fine and works perfect.

For your first mod I would get t-bolt clamps installed and do a boost leak test... You will get better gains with no boost leaks when you start adding mods and turning the boost up some. The stock worm clamps are crap imo and should be replaced if your going to mod your car.

Then add an exhaust, mbc, and intake + a tune.

thats my .02

If I could add to his .02 cents with mine. Along with clamps, and basic mods (exhaust, mbc, etc) a good boost gauge is also a very helpful tool to have for numerous reasons. Why throw a bunch of mods on the motor when you arent even sure what it is doing?

Thanks....i forgot that

In addition to my .02 cents with his addition to my .02 cents (errr something ) I would look into maybe an aem tru boost gauge controller, its a gauge + controller and i have been hearing good things about it that may cause me to ditch my old mbc and go that route.

anyway thats my .02 cents

Besides the intake gains you get nothing from there ic piping except some bling because they are routed the same as stock?.... To see a gain from ic pipes you need to get the shorter run pipes which require the mini-battery kits.

He would be better off just going with the buschur open air filter and put more money towards and exhaust, mbc, and a tune....

Ok another question/request.
Does anyone have any links or can post sound clips of a drop in filter and the AEM intake?

I just want to hear how it sounds too because people say that the AEM intake is insanly louder then the drop in and that the drop in is 2-3 times louder then stock.

Thanks
Reggie
