Unless you're running the dogpiss out of your car every day, that's a bit excessive.

i change mine when its time.......sounds funny but i know my car inside and out. When the oil starts to look old ill change it. i think it usually ends up being once every 3-4k. its the blood of your beast. take care of it....

Most suggest replacing the oil and filter and crush washer every 3K miles. I use Mobil1 and a Mitsu OEM filter as specified in the manual. I'm guessing that you were having trouble getting the filter off.. not the oil drain bolt but that made for damn funny responses anyhow. I normally get a rag and use both hands to unscrew the filter since it's hot. Beware, hot oil burns on your skin You change oil when the engine is warm. Also, since it's an MR, the oil temp sensor and the oil drain plug are the same thing so use an open end wrench of the correct size. Dont strip the bolt and dont over tighten when you are re-installing.

I hate to admit it, but I had some trouble with the first oil change too. The sending unit built in to the drain plug threw me off for a sec, then I realized that it was the only bolt that could possibly drain the pan.

Just be sure to use the right size wrench on that plug. Only use a metric wrench. That's one bolt you do not want to strip.
