When you launch the car from first gear, instead of coming off the clutch with the throttle opened just right the Evo is equipped with a 2-step. Stand on the clutch in first gear, the clutch must be all the way to the floor. Now you can step on the throttle all the way and it will limit the rev's to 5000rpm.

Basically makes for a much easier and smoother launch

I don't think the Evo's stationary rev limiter is a true "2-step," but it is very useful. Mainly, it allows you to load the motor and build boost for a better launch.

As mentioned, just put it in 1st, fully depress the clutch, then ease on the throttle at it'll stop @ 5k and bounce and you'll build about 6 psi boost. As soon as you release the clutch you go like Wyle E. Coyote from an Acme slingshot.

So you have to be completely stopped yes?

Also, do you have to have it in first gear with the clutch fully depressed?

Some people have gotten it to work with a slight roll ... like 2 mph or something. I'd think that maybe it engaged and then the car began to roll.

In short, don't try it when rolling ... you'll hit the real limiter @ 7600.

I have this with my JESTER tune but afraid to use it. It seems to bounce up and keep going up a little. It may be me but how long can you do this for 1-2 secs or should it be able to hold for 5-8 secs. and what are the concerns of this not working a blowing the motor while standing still (if any)

I've done a bit of testing with the limiter ... I've got it to build over 14 psi with some timing tweaks before seeing knock. I currently have mine set at 5750 RPM and build 12 psi. I can hold it for over 5 sec with no knock and no obvious ill effects. Both RPM and boost are stable.

Some people have experienced significant knock with even the stock limiter. It's assumed that you can keep away from knock by easing on to the limiter rather than slamming the throttle and hoping the limiter catches it.

It should not bounce much higher than Jestr has set it for you. If your limiter is at, say, 6000, it might bounce to 6200 and down to 5800. That is the common occurrence.

It will pop a bit, yes. You'll also likely see black "smoke" (actually fuel) coming from the exhaust in time with the pops.

The 2 step is a really nice feature that i have yet to use. I am also scared of blowing my engine while useing it. I am going to start messing with it this weekend when i get my car tuned. Hopefully this will help me with my horrible reaction times lol.

It will help with your 60' and ETs, not your RTs. You just need to start your launch before the green to get better RTs. It will make your slow RTs more impressive though ...

It definitley helps you launch, especially if you have an aftermarket clutch....

Not sure if you were replying to my comment Freddie, but your reaction time has nothing to do with launching. The RT is the time between the green light and the car tripping the timer. Since this distance is only a couple of inches, the RT is a measure of the driver's reaction and not of the car's ability.
