Potential IX buyer with a few questions....
DeezNuuuts83,
I did get the info from somewhere...that was @ the dealer when I was shopping. Saw a brochure for the limited lifetime powertrain warranty. That's neither here nor there as I just checked the site as you did. Perhaps it was one of them extended warranty things. The site says 5 yr powertrain warranty. My mistake; I stand corrected.
I stick by my analogy, cuz its mine ;P Don't care much for Automobile mag anyway; much prefer Road and Track or the magazine EVO from across the pond =)

one thing that sucks is when you serach on auto trader and **** for a IX, most the time it doesn't say what model it is, other than the MR. But I've never seen SE or anything, so that's gonna make things a little more difficult.
It sucks, but keep in mind that the SE model was introduced halfway through the '06 IX's lifespan, so most online places just list their cars using whatever information they get initially rather than actively trying to find out the newer models.
It's not impossible though, just look at the provided pictures or read the details, and it'll give you a better hint as to which model you might be looking at.

Good thread... I'm car shopping soon and I have the Evo or STi dilemma as well. Honestly after owning a Scooby for the last three years and loving nearly every minute of it I have a feeling that I will ultimately go with teh Evo.
Just look at the picture or check the description to see if it has any SE-specific stuff. Keep in mind:
* SE models ONLY come in apex silver, graphite grey or tarmac black
* SE models ONLY have the Diamond Black BBS wheels, not the anthracite BBS wheels from the MR (though also available as part of the MR Appearance Package, which people sometimes call the MR SE)
* SE models have the deeper front lip and red interior stitching (though also available as part of the MR Appearance Package, which people sometimes call the MR SE)
* SE models get the HIDs and aluminum roof from the MR
Usually try to find all of these things either listed or pictured together. Here is an example of a IX SE on AutoTrader:
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ce=&cardist=12
This one, however, is an MR with the Appearance Package (the MR SE, as some people call it):
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ice=&cardist=8
Pretty much, if you find something with the wheels and the red stitching, the MR aluminum shift knob and triple gauge kit will differentiate it visually between the SE and the MR SE.

just remember there is a huge difference to the interior of a current VW and an evo, although i know you will soon forget this. but yeah, just dont be shocked when you look at the dashboard as i know the GTI interior is beautiful.
yeah I'll be able to get over that. I'm more worried about the driveability over the interior, which wont be a problem. I just need to find one wholesale in the 23k range. My good friend has a dealer license and buys all kinds of rare cars and says it shouldn't be a problem finding an 06 for the 23k range at an auction or something if we just look hard for a few weeks so I'm excited and scared too.
www.elitesmotorsports.com is his site if you wanna peep some of the dope cars he has.

^ Drivability is perfectly fine, whether lugging around town in the lower rpms or cruising on the highway for a couple hundred miles. As long as you know when you can get away with applying more throttle versus downshifting, it's not a big deal, as I'm always in the right gear ahead of time. Bumps in the road aren't a huge deal, but if you drive over a long series of imperfections on the freeway (like the part of the 405 freeway that runs through Carson, CA), it gets a little annoying, but that's hardly ever an issue, unless you make frequent trips to Tijuana.
By the way, learning to rev-match and heel-toe will make your life with the Evo much easier, not just in terms of performance but also in daily driving situations. I can't stress this enough.

Evo really perfroms wells for how much you pay for. but sometimes the clutch does go out on used evos' because the previous owner was a dumbass, taking it off the line every stoplight or sign.
