The only consistent complaints and worries I see with buying a used evo is the transmission. In a worst case scenario, how much does a new trany/tcase cost? Clutch I would probably not stay OEM, so I can figure those costs out myself.

 

I really dont hear to many complaints about the trannies at all. If it hasnt been abused then it should hold fine and take just about anything you throw at it

 

Well I bought my evo just a month ago and bought it with 5th gear grinding. Mitsu covered it under warranty. They pretty much replaced all of the synchros since they were already inside of it. It would have cost me $2200 through Mitsu had it not been covered.

You could always call Shep Trans or TRE.

 

You will probably have a transfer case problem before a thrans goes. But She Trans does a rebuild for 850 on the trans I believe.
