the clutch really isnt the problem...
its the crap flywheel they put on the car. holds way to much heat and blues all over the surface.....
all it takes is one launched slipped out to long and its done
when i replaced my clutch the actual disc looked brand new, but the flywheel was completely blue and had hot spots all over it
it all depends on the driver though. i wouldnt say the STi clutches last longer, my buddy has one and his clutch went out at 18,XXX miles

i feel its all about the driver. i am at 86,000 miles and still on the stock clutch. restricter pill still in place. and i go to the strip at least once a month.
i have 22,000 miles on my car have done more then 80 drag passes, driven hard on the street and the clutch is still fine.
i think its more a related driver problem

Newbie
launch it alot u can kill it in a matter of minutes. just don't be one of those ricers that launch at every stop light...lol. The clutch will break easy if u abuse it. Treat it right and it holds pretty good. And I mean treat it good by not launching it.

The evo is actually a tiny bit faster than the sti.. and the turbo doesn't actually start to spool until 3500, not 2500 FYI

The IX is faster by a smidge 0-60, and is more "raw" than the STi. Both are great cars, however.
Beat on the clutch, and it will beat on your wallet. I drive my car pretty hard on the weekends, and still grips hard.

fyi, a turbo begins to spool any time it has exhaust gas hitting it. It may not hit full boost until closer to 3500 (more like 3200 to 3300) but it is on it's way there the whole time. And I bet you can get full boost by 2500 in 4th, 5th, or 6th. Originally Posted by evogottago

well my car is at 10,500mi and has been pushing 352whp for the last 3k miles... and it holds just fine... it is all about the driver

i few of these responses are very reassuring for me. i'm at 32k already and as far as i know, my car has never been actually launched. a few little half slips and thats it. i'm too paranoid about driveline issues in this car to launch it yet.
