hey i'm greg. my 95 passat recently broke down again with more damage than it's worth. i wanted a wrx as my next car after driving my buddies (recently totaled ), but some 03 evo VIII's are coming pretty close to the price of an 04/05 rex. I'm just starting to do my research and wanted to say hey.

 

just a quick question, what are your opinions on buying an evo with ~60k miles?

 

my opinion, its 60k miles worth of beat to **** lol. no one buys a evo to granny drive it or throw the kids in the back seat and go out to TGIfridays for a nice dinner and a movie, its more like the complete opposite of that.

 

+89429348 on that!!!! but as a previous WRX owner I know that i would take a little "worn in" EVO than a wrx. After dumping $15k+ into my wrx only to produce 350AWHP and even then my tranny couldn't hold that power... Evo's can take abuse all day long... can't wait to pick one up... just gotta find someone interested in my Z and willing to give up there evo

 

yeah i realize that nobody is going to drive these cars lightly, but most of the cars i've been looking at it's the same. the rex's have bad tranny issues which is why i figured maybe a similarly priced and miles evo might be a better option. if not, i may have to go with a low mileage srt4 or possibly a ls1 gto (however that will SUCK here in the chicago winter). i don't know

 

can anybody point me to some safety info on evo 8's? i've been looking around and can't find much of anything. thanks.

 

Well what are you looking for? Something to mod, track, leave stock...... all depends on what you want. 1 owner cars are probably better.... because like they said alot of people drive it like they stole it....

But to comment on the statement above.... some people do have the car because they love the car and not abuse it and beat the hell out of it..... I've never launched/tracked my car..... so we may be few and far between but we are out there

 

it will definitely stay stock for awhile because they already have more hp than anything I'm used to. I will eventually mod and will be doing auto-x when I get the time. It's going to be my dd so everything will stay within reason.

 

What I did is I was patient and looked around for a while. Ask a lot of questions and don't jump at the first deal you find. Also, if you know anybody who is a mechanic or have a local shop which is willing to do an inspection that knows about Mitsubishi's then have them check out the car, do compression test, ect, ect.
