Okay, so I've been reading about trannies (Mainly 5 speed vs. 6 speed) and was wondering how EXACTLY do you abuse a tranny? Or what exactly does abusing the tranny look like? I mean, when you think of it logically, yeah it could happen. But what does it actual refer to as when your actually "abusing" it. Thanks in advance guys.

 

Not servicing it properly or using the incorrect fluids would certainly be up there on the list.

 

Also I think most people when they say "abuse" mean slipping the crap out of it while trying to launch. It's the quickest way to destroy a clutch.

Or also the opposite, just dropping the clutch at 6K and focusing all that force and shock right onto the tranny.

 

Powershifting is very abusive, even with NLTS

Any hard driving would be considered abusing the tranny. Banging gears is when you switch gears as hard as you can, that is really bad for the synchros. Also not putting fluids is probably the worst.
