Buy a new EVO? or buy a used EVO?
I am looking for opinions on why it is or is NOT a good idea to buy a used EVO. Should I buy a new one, or a used one?

the only bad thing with a used one is that MOST of the time the previous owner did some kind of modding to it. and usually when they trade it in they try and turn it back to stock. therefore now you are dealing with someone elses mess up.. if you want an evo then obviously you want a fast expensive sic azz car like the evo.... buy a new one and start your own project knowing that everything will work when you buy it.
now if you plan on modding right off the gate then get a used one and build her up......just my 2 cents though

What are you talking about a new X or a used IX your question doesnt really make sense to me unless someone else can chime in.
Heres why your question doesnt make sense to me. Your not gonna find an Evo IX new but you can buy one used. Evo X arent out yet and there gonna be new and your not gonna find a used one for a little while. So if you elaborate on your question a bit more you could get better advice.

Also if your more concerned on price then yes a used one would be better but if you want a new car then get a X. Just remember the X is going to be really different then the VIIIs and IXs they might have some bugs in them when they come out or they might not only time will tell. At least VIII and IXs have been out for awhile and you got a database of people exp and an tons of info on them so if you do have a problem with the VIII or IX your gonna have an answer on your problems. Hope this helps

If there was the option to buy a new IX or a new X... pff obviously for me it'd be the VIII or IX. The only reason the X is even IN the equation is because it is the only NEW EVO available now...

Did you actually check to see that all the EVOs are ACTUALLY sold or are you going by what youve read on this forum? If you can get a new IX swoop it up, otherwise if you know youre ish you can tell when something has had major mods or just basics. If those two options are not possible, be the first kid on the block wit the X.

buy a new IX. there are plenty still sitting around dealer lots.
also there are 2 of the biggest fraud possibilities out there that most don't talk about. it involves:
1) swapping gauge clusters. let's say u buy an '03 with "35000"miles on it. how would u know if that is accurate if it has a ralliart cluster in it? u don't & CARFAX is unable to verify mileage except for the odometer reading. so in essence a car could "say" 35k miles but really has 60k on it!!!!!!!!!!
2) the owner might have or had access to a
factory scan tool which can "roll back miles" in which case u could possibly have the same problems as scenario #1.
Only if you are a competent mechanic w/at least 10+ yrs experience is it wise to buy a used EVO. Porsche buffs don't buy used Porsches bcuz they already know how most were treated. also if the car was in an accident & it was repaired at a "mom & pop" shop, that does not show up on carfax which affects value not to mention u don't know if it was fully repaired.
the only exception i can think of to buying a used EVO is if the owner is at least 45, has at least 5 or more cars, non-smoker, & he hardly drove it. even still i would thoroughly inspect for damage, loosened bolts, frame repair, warped rotors, body panel colors that don't match, etc...
