Your opinions on the mods on my VIII
Hello all,
I live in the Netherlands and have a 2004 EVO VIII for little less then a year now. I bought the car from a official Mitsubishi dealer with just 36.000 kilometers it had one owner from new who traded it in for a IX.
The first owner had installed a few extra parts:
Injen intake with upper & lower IC pipes
Invidia Titanium tip cat back exhaust
Ecutek reprogrammed
The car is running between 22 to 24 peak PSI & supposedly be putting out around
300-330HP. At the end of januari I will be doing a Dyno run to know exactly.
I've done a few things myself wich i thought just had te be done to balance off what was already done to the car:
Defi Blue racer Gauges (oil pressure, oil temperature, Boost)
FULL ACT Street clutch kit + ACT Streetlight flywheel
Rotora slotted rotors F+R with Ferodo DS2500pads
WeaponR Engine torque damper
WeaponR master brake cilinder brace
Steel clutchline
Steel brakelines
Saikou Michi DC3 oil catchcan
Still to do engine wise:
Fuel pump upgrade (is this truly nessecary for the current setup or just do it anyway just to be safe??)
BOV upfrade from the still stock plastic one (working on it, either stock IX or the APS EVO dual vent)
I will be using the car as a daily fun driver since i work only 20 minutes from work with public transport and dont put much milage on it, and for several trackdays & events not going for full race but maximum fun, coilovers are already on the to do list.
What i'd like to know if there is anything else I should be considering to upgrade engine wise with the current setup and for what I intend to use the EVO for? Have I been doing the right things so far not nessecarely in the right order
?
There's so much information on here I sometimes get lost.
Thanks in advance

Okay, only been a few days since this post, but seeing there is no comment yet, the set-up is either total crap or totally awsome & needs no comment
just someone tell me wich one it is i'd like to know
If you are running less that 25 lbs of boost stock IX or Forge BOV is the way to go- I have the Forge and really like it. I am also running a Walboro 255lph fuel pump-- would probably be a good idea for you to make sure you are not running lean. Sounds like you have a pretty good set up though.

Get a 3" DP, if you are still running the stock downpipe. Replace the catalytic convertor with a test pipe. Get an Ebay O2 housing. Do alcohol injection. Do a set of upgraded camshafts.
Is your car a Euro RS model? If so, the turbo has a 9.8 hotside which you should replace with a 10.5 turbine housing. Oh yeah, and get yourself a 255 LPH Walbro fuel pump.
EDIT: The delayed response to your post is due to the fact that everyone is making last minute preparations for the New Year's celebrations.

Unfortunately you have alot of money invested in non performance modifications, Your mod list is short on performance mods, but its nice that you got the small things out of the way for future modding. I made somewhere near 400 whp on a dyno jet with and exhaust (3" turbo back a ECU tune, and a MBC) and ran a 12.1 @ 116.9 mph'...
As others said, i would say get an exhaust to start with. IX's are easy power and can be LOW LOW 12's and maybe 11's with a good driver and a good tune... good mod list to start with though, now start knocking out the bigger items that might cost a few more bucks, but of course get you a bunch more ponies!!!
Best of luck with the mod process....

Doubt that you are anywhere near the 330 mark with those mods. I have cams and a bit more than you and the last time I was at 315 HP. Mine is an 03 FWIW.
I would invest in a 9 BOV as they are far better than the plastic 8 model. Get yourself a DP and a high flow cat are a couple of good things you could do.
Do some track events with the stock suspension and learn with it then upgrade the coilovers. There is a guy here in Socal that does NASA on the stock suspension and he is quite good.

. With the mods in your sig sure but with just those 3 NO DAMNED WAY. Oh and pay attention he has an 8 not a 9.Trending Topics
Thanks for the input,
I ordered the walbro 255 pump and the APS dual vent BOV (
APS for looks & future mods in mind)
I know about the lack of "performance" parts on the list but those are the first things imo that should be upgraded when considering adding extra horsepower. The bit extra braking power, the clutch for the added power that the stock unit is not really made for & the flywheel as a bonus because the clutch had to be done anyway. The other things are just minor good to have addons to keep busy during planning for the bigger stuff imo.
I'm sceptical about the 300-330hp output also but i 'll find out what i have exaclty at the end of this month and go with the data from the run as a starting point.
About the exhaust, since there is a Invidia cat back already installed I looked around on their website just to see what they offer, how far should i take it (apart from the question how far do you want to take it)? the full deal: Header, Turbo outlet, Downpipe, (testpipe?) & should i stick with Invidia so i know it will fit.
I'd rather do it right the first time and over do it, it cannot harm and though more expensive now, it might turn out to be cheaper in the end.
I have to keep in mind that I have to get my parts mainly if not all from overseas as there are hardly any suplliers & shops that dont ripp you off over here in the Netherlands, and with sufficient knowledge of the EVO that I cant get here or on other sites myself. With the parts i ordered so far i already saved hundreds of dollars (shipment and fees included).
To give an example, when i first got the car i looked into some parts. A new FMIC from Injen for instance (one of the few brands I can find over here more easily) would cost me around 1800 dollars
A Forge one for around 1400 dollars.
For that kinda money i could have a AMS Evo Race Intercooler + Piping Kit from for instance lancershop.com & I know they are not the cheapest, or order a APS one for half the price from them and some other goodies & stil keep money in my pockets. I dont mind spending money but i 'm not throwing it away
