I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between the 04 Evo RS and the regular 04 Evo. I have searched and know that the RS comes with the HLSD. As far as everything else goes, it looks the same. So why does every pricing site have the RS priced lower than the standard evo. Thanks.

 

RS= no air-conditioning, audio system, HID headlamps, ABS, and rear wing,power windows, door locks, and mirrors,sound deadening, trunk-compartment trim, rear wiper, map lights, rear assist handles, parking-brake handle leather, center-console lid, and keyless-entry system. The door mirrors and handles are black instead of body-colored.

 

1.RS does not have stereo/speakers
2.RS does not have sound defeating material
3.RS door handle/mirror is not painted
4.RS does not have wing
5.RS has front LSD 2004 while 2004 GSR did not have front LSD
6.RS has aluminum roof for lightness but GSR had steel

im too tired, not sure if i missed another point or two but thats majority of difference

the RS is geared for the "racer" type person since it is much lighter that is why more comfort and looks are sacrificed. if you want a daily driver go with gsr. if you want a track car go with the rs.

 

The '04 part doesn't matter, they all came with A/C, though before they were released, Mitsubishi had intended for it to be an option, not a standard feature.

 

which is faster 0-60 and 1/4 evo 9 or evo 9 gsr?

Thanks for the responses. I know on the Evo 9's, the RS means no power windows, no power locks, no radia, aluminum roof, ect. However on the 04 Evo RS it comes with pwr locks, pwr, windows, radio. The only thing I have found by serching the forums and specs is the LSD in the front. It still has the same center and rear diff. I would think that adding an LSD front would increase the value of the car. Does anyone know what the orignal MSRP's were of the 04 RS vs the 04 GSR. I'm still just baffled by the price difference (from sites like NADA and Kelly blue book). THanks again.

 

No the 04 RS has no power locks, windows, or any accessories of any kind. If your lucky it comes with a radio and AC. Now there is/was an option package to get the accessories back but i dont' know the cost of it.

The RS is a base model it should come as no surprise that its price is lower.

Ok, that makes since that there was an option to get the pwr stuff back. The reason I'm asking because there are sever 04 EVO RS models for sale near me and the ones that I have got more info on all had pwr locks, windows and radio. That's why I was confused.
I guess I have another question then. How do you determine if a vehicle has the LSD? I know for an open diff, if you lift the car and spin one wheel, the other spins in the opposite direction. Are the non-limited slip diff true open diffs or something else? I'm just trying to figure out how to really know if the car is an RS or not (VIN does not indicate trim level). Any help would be great.

 

it doesn't matter if it was an 04 RS or not they all came with air conditioning, Mitsubishi was going to have air conditioning as an option before they were released but they all came standard with ac.

the same? I dont think the 9 RS is so much more lighter than the 9 GSR that it is noticeable. Maybe im wrong. idk.
