How reliable is a Mitsubishi?
I am looking to buy a Mitsubishi but I have heard that they are very unreliable and always have problems. Is this true. If so tell me why and a rating between 1 and 10 that you would give your car and how its been over the years. 1 being as reliable as a Land Rover 10 being Honda....
thanks for your help

This is always a subjective topic. I'm not going to jinx myself, but for a 350whp car, my mitsu has been solid. Tranny problems, etc. are all going to depend on how the vehicle is used. There are always going to be certain issues, even with Toyota's, Honda's, etc. Mitsu knows how to make engines, that's a definate. Their 6's aren't nearly as proven as their 4's, but they're still decent.
How about we kind of rearrange this thread based on what problems everyone has had on their evo.
I'll go first...
1. Peeling Brembo's - replaced under warranty
2. Peeling wing - Taking to dealer soon
3. Grinding gears - Taking to Shep
Tranny problems most likely related to power level, so I don't blame
.
How reliable is a Mitsubishi? How wet is water? How deep is your love? It all depends on how you treat it, neglect the basics of fcar care and it will hate you for it, take care of it and it will be good to you, the paint needs a little extra lovin because it is pretty thin, but are you gonna buy it to drive it or to sit in the garage and look pretty?
Mitubishi is just as reliable as any other car, you beat the car, it will beat your wallet. You take care of the car it will take care of you and your wallet. Keep up on all scheduled maintenance, ie oil changes, spark plugs, lets say all fluids, the 30k service, 60k service, etc. But as stated above the car does have normal small problems just as any honda, toyota, land rover. Hope this helps you a little bit.

its impossible to tell if a car is going to have problems even if it is taken care of very well. the same basics apply to every car when a car is being operated it is constantly wearing the parts down eventually parts will give out. the only way to avoid this is if you dont drive your car at all.
If you take care of it, it will take care of you. The service can get expencive if you beat on the car. Your control is going to determan how much any car costs you in parts and repair. If I were you I would search for mitsu problems on this site you will see lots of goods and bads.
The Evo is plenty reliable. The Evo is a very simple cars, that is there are very few parts of the car that could go wrong. The Evo doesn't have a million computers to bypass before you can drive it like a BMW, it doesn't offer the luxury features of most other 30k cars (I consider this a good point because there's less to go wrong). I don't know about the evo X though but we'll see how that car does in the next few months.
If you are fairly knowledgable about fixing cars and you don't recklessly abuse the car, the Evo should have nothing wrong with it. All the unreliability issues I've seen of are of people that have little idea of how to take care of a car and abuse it, then blame Mitsu for building a piece of crap.
If you don't believe me this is a quote from Tommi Makinen, "The Evo was a fast car, a very, very fast car, which suited my driving style very well. At the same time, it was a very reliable car. It was simple enough. We didn't have any electronic gearchange. It was all manual. It was very, very reliable. I would say nearly all our retirements were my own fault. I went off. I had quite a few accidents. But we had very few retirements for technical reasons, and that was very good at the time".
In this modern age, I think most cars are all reliable if you know how to take care of it. It's just that some cars are better at taking mindless abuse from people that could careless about cars. I'm sure though most people that buy the Evo know what they're getting and hopefully you understand this too instead of just listening to word of mouth from other people.
